Gate 179: לס — THE RETURN
Gate 179 of Liber Tigris — Pillar 7: THE RETURN

Pillar 7: THE RETURN
[179:1] "Return, O Israel, to the LORD your God."
[179:2] --- Hosea 14:1
[179:3] "All beings come from God and return to God."
[179:4] --- Meister Eckhart
[179:5] "We shall not cease from exploration,
[179:6] and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where
we started and know the place for the first time."
[179:7] --- T.S. Eliot, Four Quartets
[179:8] [179:1] The Return is not going back; it is going all
the way through.
[179:9] [179:2] Creation moved outward from the source---from
the One to the many, from unity to diversity, from spirit to matter. The
Return is not the reversal of creation but its completion. You do not
unmake the journey; you carry its fruits back to the origin, enriching
the source with the experience of differentiation.
[179:10] [179:3] In Kabbalistic terms, the Return
is tikkun---the repair or restoration of the original wholeness that was
shattered in creation. But tikkun does not restore
the previous wholeness; it creates a new wholeness that includes all
that was learned through the shattering. The repaired vessel is more
beautiful than the unbroken one.
[179:11] [179:4] The Return is also teshuvah---turning,
repentance, coming home. To return is to turn around, to face the
direction you came from, to walk back toward the source. But you walk as
someone who has traveled, not as someone who never left. You carry the
journey with you; the journey becomes the gift you bring.
[179:12] [FIGURE 179.1: A spiral that descends outward and then
ascends inward---not returning to the exact starting point but to a
point directly above it. Caption: "The return is not regression but
completion."] [179:5] "We shall not cease from exploration, and the
end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the
place for the first time." Eliot's lines capture the paradox. You
return to where you began---but you know it now, and you did not know it
before. The knowledge transforms both you and the place. The return is a
first arrival.
[179:13] [179:6] The prodigal son returns home. He is the same
son who left; he is not the same son who left. He has known hunger,
degradation, separation. He has learned what home is by losing it. His
father welcomes him---not with "I told you so" but with a feast,
because what was lost has been found, and the finding is more precious
than if there had been no losing.
[179:14] [179:7] In the OOMNI system, the Return is
consciousness completing its circuit: descending from source (Lightning
Down, Gate 91), experiencing fully (incarnation), and ascending back
(Snake Up, Gate 92), now carrying all it has learned. The circuit is not
pointless; the electricity that flows through the wire powers the light.
Experience illuminates.
[179:15] [179:8] Not all return in one lifetime. The doctrine of
reincarnation (Gate 185) suggests that many circuits may be
required---many descents and ascents, many lives and deaths---until
consciousness has gathered all it needs. Each return is partial; the
final Return is complete. But every step toward home is homecoming.
[179:16] [179:9] The Return is also happening now. Every moment
of recognition, every insight, every act of love is a small
return---consciousness turning toward its source, touching home, then
continuing the journey. You do not wait until death to return; you
return in every moment of awakening.
[179:17] [179:10] Return, then. Not as obligation but as longing
fulfilled. Not as duty but as nature completing itself. The One poured
out into many for the sake of experience; the many gather back into One
for the sake of knowing what they always were. The question and the
answer meet. The circle closes. And in closing, opens.
