Pillar 5: NUMBER AND PATTERN

FREQUENCIES

[140:1] "If you want to find the secrets of the universe,

[140:2] think in terms of energy, frequency and vibration."

[140:3] --- Nikola Tesla
[140:4] "Everything in life is vibration."
[140:5] --- Albert Einstein
[140:6] "At the resonant frequency, small forces produce large
effects."
[140:7] --- Physics principle

[140:8] [140:1] The Hebrew חק (Chak) means "statute" or

"law"---and resonant frequencies are the laws that systems naturally

obey, the frequencies at which they respond most strongly.

[140:9] [140:2] Every physical system has resonant

frequencies---the frequencies at which it naturally vibrates, at which a

small input produces a large response. Push a swing at its natural

frequency, and it goes higher and higher. Push at other frequencies, and

it resists. Resonance is the system saying "yes."

[140:10] [140:3] "Think in terms of energy, frequency and

vibration." Tesla's advice is profound. The material world is

vibrational; resonance is how vibrations interact; frequency is the key

that unlocks response. To understand resonance is to understand how

influence works.

[140:11] [140:4] "At the resonant frequency, small forces

produce large effects." This is the power of resonance. The singer

shatters the glass not by brute force but by hitting the glass's

resonant frequency. The army breaks the bridge not by weight but by

marching in step at the bridge's resonant frequency. Alignment

magnifies.

[140:12] [FIGURE 140.1: A resonance curve---showing how response

peaks sharply at the resonant frequency and falls off rapidly on either

side.] [140:5] Musical instruments are designed for resonance. The

body of a violin, the tube of a flute, the stretched head of a

drum---each is shaped to resonate at certain frequencies, to amplify

certain sounds. The instrument's voice is its resonance profile.

[140:13] [140:6] Bentov's model (Gate 84) uses resonance to

explain consciousness. The body has resonant frequencies; meditation

entrains the body to a particular resonance; at that resonance,

something shifts. The "physio-kundalini" is a resonance

phenomenon---the nervous system finding its natural frequency.

[140:14] [140:7] Resonance in relationships: people "resonate"

with each other when their frequencies (emotional, intellectual,

spiritual) align. The metaphor is more than metaphor---emotional

attunement may involve actual synchronization of physiological rhythms.

We sense resonance without understanding its physics.

[140:15] [140:8] Resonance can be destructive. Earthquakes at a

building's resonant frequency are catastrophic; electrical resonance

can blow circuits; social resonance (feedback loops) can topple

governments. The power that builds can also destroy; resonance is not

inherently benign.

[140:16] [140:9] Prayer and ritual may work through resonance.

The repeated chant, the congregational synchronization, the alignment of

intention---these could be understood as tuning to a resonant frequency,

aligning many small vibrations to produce a large effect. Resonance

gives a physics to prayer.

[140:17] [140:10] Find your resonance. What makes you come

alive? What aligns your energy? What calls forth response far larger

than the input? That is your resonant frequency---the thing you were

made to do, the frequency at which your system says "yes." Live there

when you can.
